Penela-Ansião-Alvaiázere
The Ecological Park (Intermunicipal) of Algarinho (Penela)-Gramatinha (Ansião)-Ariques (Alvaiázere), with an area of approximately 30,000 hectares, located between the municipalities of Penela, Ansião and Alvaiázere, presents itself today as a space landscape of great importance not only for the Sicó sub-region, but also for the Center region and the entire country. The preserved spot of oak and holm oak houses more than eight hundred species of fauna and flora, including several endemic species, such as some lilies and orchids, with centuries-old and even millenary species, such as cork oak, wild olive trees and olive trees.
NOTE: SICO ORCHID
Terras do Sicó is a predominantly limestone region, being one of the richest in the country, if not the richest, in quantity and variety of wild orchid species, located in the central region of Portugal, just south of Coimbra. It comprises the Serra do Sicó massif and some wide areas, including the municipalities of Pombal, Ansião, Penela, Soure, Condeixa-a-Nova and Alvaiázere.
Over several months of the year, we can admire the different species of orchids, including some very rare and endangered.
